Assessing the suitability of wood from the hybrid trees of a poplar and a willow for manufacturing the papermaking pulps. Wood of the selected species of fast growing trees (one of a willow and four of a poplar), from the plantation of the Forestry Research Institute (IBL), was assessed in the Pulp and Paper Research Institute (ICP), regarding its suitability for manufacturing the papermaking pulps. Such evaluation was based on wood density and its chemical composition, and the latter was mainly characterised by the content of: cellulose, lignin, and extractives (with ethanol). Among the studied samples of wood, most suitable for papermaking were the samples from the species of a poplar denoted as 55/8, 84/19 (Populus tremula x Populus alba) and as 264/2/2 (Populus tremula x Populus tremuloides), characterised by the highest content of cellulose and the lowest lignin content.
