The author presents two multiple neoplasms detected in an 11-year-old dachshund dog. Clinical and ultrasonographic examinations indicated the neoplasm near the thyroid gland and focal changes in the liver. Hypophyseos adenoma chromophobum was diagnosed during the histopathological examination of the abnormal part of glandularis. The neoplasm of the parathyroid gland is diagnosed as a adenocarcinoma with metastases in the liver.
The aim of the study was the examine atrophy and degenerative brain changes of nine elderly animals (three monkeys, two wild cats, a likaon, a bear, a fox and horse) and to find an animal model for researching Alzheimer disease in humans. Brain hemispheres were dissected into hemispheric slabs 4.0-4.8 mm thick. Tissue samples from the brains were fixed in 10% neutral formalin, and embedded in paraffin, and then stained with hematoxylin an eosin, Nissl method, and monoclonal antibody 4G8 mAb against b-polipeptyde and neurofibrillary tangles (NFT) were stained with anti-tau monoclonal antibody. The examined animals revealed various degrees of brain atrophy neuron loss in layer III-VI in particular, lipofuscin deposit, status lacunaris, degenerative changes in the white matter, and gliosis. Lafora-like bodies were observed in licaon, horse and bear brains. The monkeys, cats, licaon, foxes, with the exception of the horse developed brain parenchymal amyloidosis-b. Two types of plaque were present, with the diffuse form being predominant. Congophilic amyloid angiopathy was observed in all the animals with the exception of the horse. NFT and amyloidosis-b was observed only in the bear brain and the latter is a good model for Alzheimer's pathology.
The article presents a case of pituitary adenocarcinoma in a twelve-year old female European cat. This tumor derived from secretary cells of the distalis region of the pituitary gland. Large multiple neoplasm cells were divided by a band of connective tissue. Neoplasm-areas of typical solidum constitution were also observed. Neoplastic cells have various shapes and sizes, pycnotic, round and oval nucleus with one or two peripheral located nucleoli and have dispersed, granular cytoplasm staining with eosin. The neoplasm was characterized by a high mitotic activity and multiple mitotic figures. The pituitary adenocarcinoma spread to intra-cerebella metastases.
The objective of the study was to demonstrate the effect of oral administration of aluminum on the level of hematological and biochemical blood indicators, clinical symptoms and its contents in selected CNS structures in dogs. The study was conducted in two stages. The dogs were assigned to two groups. The experimental group was composed of 7 hybrid dogs (aged 12-17 years, 5 males and 2 females) which received 10 mg/kg aluminum sulphate orally over a period of 6 weeks. The control group was composed of 7 hybrid dogs (aged 13-20 years, 3 males and 4 females) which did not receive the preparation. 1 ml blood samples for hematological tests were collected from the cephalic vein (vena cephalica) to EDTA test tubes. The number of erythrocytes (RBC), hemoglobin concentration (Hb), hematocrit (Ht), the number of leukocytes and platelets were determined. The hematological test was conducted with the automatic analyzer unit by ABX Diagnostic. 5 ml blood samples were collected for the biochemical tests into test tubes with silicone spheres. Serum was obtained from full blood for 5 min. at 1500 × g. Serum was used to assess the activity of alanine aminotransferase (ALAT/GPT), aspartate aminotransferase (AspAT/GOT), alkaline phosphatise (ALP/AP/FA), level of calcium (with the POINTE 180 biochemical analyzer unit), magnesium, organic phosphorus (with the EPOLL 11 analyzer unit), sodium, potassium, and chlorine (with the CIBA CORNING 644 analyzer unit). After 42 days of administration of aluminum, an insignificant decrease in all morphological blood parameters was recorded in the experimental group, with a statistically significant decrease found in the concentrations of calcium and potassium in blood serum between the first day of the study and the 42nd day. The level of calcium in the experimental group was reduced. No statistically significant differences were found in the concentrations of sodium, magnesium, phosphorus and chlorine in the experimental group. However, a statistically significant increase was recorded in the content of aluminum in the cerebral cortex, hippocampus and cerebellum cortex in the experimental group.
Lungs from 20 mouflons from the Owl Mountains were examined parasitologically, gross pathologically and histopathologically. In lungs nematodes from the family of Protostrongylidae were found. The number and species of the parasites was determined. Gross pathological examinations revealed the hatching and parasitic noduels. Histological examinations showed various crossections of parasites, heavy inflammatory infiltration, numerous necrotic foci and dystrophic calcification of pathologically changed parts of lungs.
