Numerical evaluation of bed hardness. The paper discusses experiments on the numerical assessment of hardness of single-layer foam systems manufactured from standard type polyurethane foams. The evaluation involved carrying out empirical investigations and numerical calculations in the ABAQUS system environment simulating user’s contact with the bed followed by the comparison of strain values generated at the place of contact of the examined objects, shape of the contact surface and the deflection degree of the bed unit. In the course of experiments, optimal hardness of the indenter generating minimal strain values on the contact surface was selected.
The aim of the research project was to elaborate mathematical and numerical models of dual upholstery spring systems employed in mattresses of the furniture for sleeping. It was found that the modelling of complete mattress assemblies of the furniture for lying containing composite spring systems should not present too many problems and the calculation results should reflect real values.
