The aim of this research was to investigate formaldehyde content in and volatile organic compounds release from particleboards produced from fibrous chips. The object of the tests were panels produced from fibrous chips of black locust Robinia Pseudoacacia L. and willow Salix Viminalis L., as well as from typical industrial particles. The results show that formaldehyde content in the panels produced from willow fibrous chips is similar to the content in the panels made of industrial particles. The concentration of total volatile organic compounds measured after 4 weeks of storage is significantly lower than the required by the existing regulations.
Self-adhesive materials manufactured from acrylic polymers, especially acrylic pressure- sensitive adhesives (PSA) are widely used in different industrial applications. The wide ranges of self-adhesive products comprise self-adhesive tapes which are used for the mounting of composite plates in the furniture industry. The goal of the investigations was the synthesis of solvent-based acrylic PSA used as furniture tape and the testing of the influence of free residue monomers on their properties (tack, peel adhesion, shear strength, shrinkage). The best performance for self-adhesive tapes in the form of polymeric films with 30 g/m² and 60 g/m² coating weights and containing less than 0.3 wt.% residue monomers was observed.

Torrefaction is a mild pre-treatment of biomass at the temperatures range from 200°C to 300°C. This report presents preliminary studies of torrefaction process for different types of raw material. A torrefied product has a brown/black colour, reduced moisture content, and increased heating value (HHV and LHV). It has favourable properties for application as a fuel for gasification and combustion.
The objective of the present work was to determine the effect of galactomannans (guar and carob) on some rheological properties of freeze- -dried wheat starch gels. Temperature-dependent apparent viscosity curves, flow curves, shear time-dependent apparent viscosity curves as well as mechanical spectra were plotted. On the basis of the results obtained, it can be said that both freeze-drying and gum addition to the system modify rheological properties of wheat starch pastes/gels, and that these changes depend on the type and concentration of the gum used. In the investigated systems with galactomannans, higher values of apparent viscosity were observed along with increasing temperature as well as higher values of shear stress in the flow time, as compared to native starch. It should be stressed, however, that the guar gum system was characterised by higher viscosity values than that with carob gum. The presence of particular gums in the systems modified also viscoelastic properties of gels obtained, depending on the gum used and its concentration.
Fuel properties of woody biomass plant descending from urban areas. The presented work includes research on woody biomass plant descending from pruning operations in Poznań urban area. Studies were carried out on deciduous wood (Populus tremula L., Acer platanoides L., Robinia pseudoacacia L.) and coniferous wood (Pinus sylvestris L.). The aim of this study was to investigate the basic fuel properties of the wood materials obtained from the maintenance of urban green areas.
