The contents of K, Na, Ca and Mg in the plants of various genotypes and cultivars of maize (Zea mays L. ssp. indentata), grown under greenhouse conditions was studied, and the growth of the aerial parts was considered to be the background. It was established that the growth in length of seedlings, their development and the contents of individual elements were genotypically differentiated, but this effect was not linked with the origin of seed material. Considering the elements, K was accumulated to the highest extent, then Ca, Mg, and Na to the lowest, although Na content was high when compared to the literature data. Among the genotypes and hybrids, plants of the genotype K202xK210 characterized by accelerated growth had the highest K, whereas the specimens of slow-growing cv. PR39G12 the highest Mg content. The results reveal that the uptake and accumulation of K, Na, Ca and Mg in maize seedlings grown in the artificial conditions were proper.
