Among pulse crops grasspea (Lathyrus sativus L.) belongs to marginal species in agriculture on the world scale. In the last years the importance of this crop increased, due to, among other things, their unique resistance to abiotic stresses. The paper contents a short literature review characterizing: taxonomy, origin, occurrence, variability of traits, agronomic importance as well as chemical composition of seeds and future research strategy on the improvement of this crop.
