Trials to control of bovine brucellosis using the ELISA test on milk samples

Individual milk samples of 383 cows were examined in the ABR test. The same samples were also tested individually and collectively using the ELISA test. The test was used noting to what degree the mammary gland was irritated. The ABR gave positive or doubtful results in 18 cows. The ELISA was used to examine 47 individual samples (among which were all positive or doubtful), 76 collective samples from 3 cows and 39 collective samples from 4 cows. All were found to be negative. Six collective samples from 40 cows (from 2 herds) and 3 samples of 34 cows each (1 herd) were also examined. All herds were considered to be free from brucellosis. All these samples were also negative. The results suggest that the ELISA is much more specific.
