Apples are a major fruit crop in Poland, together with sour cherries they account for three-fourths of the total fruit crop and occupy a half of the total fruit acreage. Costs of human labour are of great importance to producers of these kinds of fruit. The aim of this research was to evaluate the level of hired labour inputs on farms with apple and sour cherry production, then to compare their productivity according to the share of hired labour and, finally, to quantify the strength of the relationship between the share of hired labour and, other variables such as profitability and volume of production. To complete the latter, a regression analysis was used. The research was conducted on 33 farms with dessert apple production and 22 farms with sour cherry production. The relationship between the share of hired labour and the volume of production as well as the market output turned out to be highly significant for apple production. There was no statistically significant relationship between the share of hired labour and the total costs in apple and sour cherry production.
