In the paper there was taken an attempt to show the influence of marketing strategies on increasing competitiveness of trade enterprises. These issues were enriched by results of survey research conducted among owners of retail units on the Podkarpacie area. The analyses point out, that trade enterprises creating competitive advantage use a wide variety of marketing tools. The conducted theoretical and empirical analysis enables stating, that the raised issues are extremely important and actual. The characteristic of market economy is competitive struggle and it's natural course cannot be stopped. Entrepreneurs, who are not able to rise to a challenge will be out of a "game", thus the only chance to survive is in continuous adjusting to changing market needs and building stable competitive advantage.
