The paper presents the results of the study on efficiency, advantages and disadvantages of one-stage reed bed wastewater treatment on the example of two plants located in the Lublin voivodeship. The benefits of reed bed wastewater treatment plants include relatively high efficiency of reduction of BOD5, COD, and the removal of suspended solids (79.2-98.7%) from sewage. They are also capable of treating irregular sewage inflow and highly concentrated wastewater. These plants are relatively easy and inexpensive to construct, operate and maintain. Since these facilities fit harmoniously into the landscape, they could be recommended for small settlements, holiday resorts and privately owned farms. Among their limitations, lower efficiency of disposal of biogenic compounds (11.0-86.5%) and pollutant removal in winter should be mentioned. Besides, they require a relatively large land area.
