One of the most important factors determining the uptake, accumulation and distribution of nutrient elements in plant tissues is the interaction between the ions of some elements and the effect of the physiologically important substances. In this work the relationship between THE accumulation of selenium, ABA (abscisic acid), and some nutrient elements (Mg²⁺, Fe³⁺, Mn²⁺, Cu²⁺, Zn²⁺) in the tissues of roots, mesocotyles and leaves of Zea mays L. plants was studied. The experiments were carried out with eight- to nine-day old maize plants (Zea mays L.) grown on the Hoagland's medium. Seeds of maize were cultivated for four days in the darkness at 27°C on the moist filter paper. Than the individual seedlings were transferred into the aerated solution containing the macro- and microelements, and next cultivated in green house for 12 hours in light and 12 hours (12 h photoperiod) at 25°C and an irradiance of ca. 450 µmol·m⁻²·s⁻¹. The seedlings were exposed to the solution containing NaHSeO₃ , ABA, or ABA + NaHSeO₃ about 96 h before chemical analysis. The concentration of ABA in external medium was 10⁻⁴ mol·dm⁻³ and 10⁻³ mol·dm⁻³, concentration of selenite (NaHSeO₃) - 10⁻⁶ mol·dm⁻³ and pH of the medium was 6.5. The accumulation of selenium, magnesium, iron, manganese, copper and zinc in seedlings of maize was measured by emission spectroscopy using the spectrometer with excitation by argon inductively coupled plasma technique (ICP-OES). The results presented in poster indicate on the relationship between the uptake, accumulation and distribution of magnesium, iron, manganese, copper and zinc in the tissues of roots, mesocotyles and leaves of maize plants and the presence of ABA and selenium in the external medium of growing plants. The study shows that phytohormon ABA and selenium change uptake, accumulation and distribution of some cations in the tissues of maize plants.
