Two common viruses were isolated from the leaves of the orchid Cymbidium aloifolium. They were easily transmitted by sap inoculation to a range of indicator plants. Seven among indicators developed only the symptoms of local infection on inoculated leaves. These were: Cassia occidentalis, Chenopodium quinoa, Datura stramonium, Gomphrena globosa, Nicotiana glutinosa, Nicotiana tabacum ‘Xanthi’ nc. and Tetragonia expansa. The particles in form of slightly curved rods, 200-300 nm or 400-500 nm long, were visible on electronomicrographs. It was possible to diagnose the presence of ORSV and CyMV, considering both above characterized standard properties of the virus stability as well as the results of serological tests.
