The objective of this research is to analyse food consumption patterns in retirees' households in Poland. Cross-sectional household data from Household Budget survey in year 2003 are used. For a complete demand system analysis we apply linearly approximated Almost Ideal Demand System (LA/AIDS). We present results of estimates of own and cross-price elasticities of demand for eight aggregate food groups products using LA/AIDS model. The estimates of compensated own price elasticities for some groups of food are noticeably smaller than uncompensated. This indicates that income effect of their price change on their own quantity demanded is highly important when purchasing these food groups. Absolute value of own price elasticities confectionary are estimated as the lowest and for vegetables as the highest. Knowledge of demand elasticities gives us an overview of consumption habits. Further food demand analysis should be continued in order to reveal trends and differences between various groups of polish households. This would be an important information for policy makers, researchers and marketing companies.
