Innowacje można określić jako nowości w skali danego przedsiębiorstwa, regionu, kraju, Europy czy świata. Mogą one mieć charakter materialny lub niematerialny, a ich efektem są zmiany techniczne, technologiczne, organizacyjne, ekonomiczne, społeczne. Głównym celem tego artykułu jest analiza znaczenia innowacji w rolnictwie, które można rozumieć jako upowszechnianie postępu technicznego, postępu biologicznego, doradztwa rolniczego i komputeryzację. Środki pochodzące z budżetu państwa są głównym źródłem finansowania postępu w rolnictwie. Nakłady na działalność B+R w % PKB, zarówno w 2000 roku, jak i 2004 roku, byly w Polsce trzykrotnie niższe niż wyniosła średnia unijna. W przypadku dostępu do internetu, to w 2004 roku miało go tylko 26% polskich gospodarstw domowych, a unijna średnia to 43%.W latach 2000-2005 byly coraz mniejsze, przy jednoczesnym braku finansowania płynącego z sektora prywatnego. W Polsce, w roku 2005 31,2% ogółu indywidualnych gospodarstw rolnych powyżej lha UR skorzystało z doradztwa rolniczego, a w tym aż 90% gospodarstw skorzystało z usług ośrodków doradztwa rolniczego. Największy odsetek gospodarstw korzystających z doradztwa rolniczego odnotowano w 2005 roku w województwach: kujawsko-pomorskim, wielkopolskim, warmińsko-mazurskim i zachodniopomorskim. Najmniej zainteresowanych doradztwem gospodarstw bylo w województwach: podkarpackim, śląskim i świętokrzyskim. Gospodarstwa domowe rolników, zaraz po gospodarstwach emerytów i rencistów stanowiły najgorzej zaopatrzoną w komputery grupę społeczną w 2004 roku.

Innovations are novelties that can be introduced in the enterprise, in the region, in the country, in Europe or across the world. They may have a material as well as non-material character, and they result in technical, technological, organization, economic and social changes. The main purpose of this article is to analyze meaning of innovations in agriculture, understood as a diffusion of: technological and biological progress supported with counseling for agriculture and computerization. Expenditures on R&D activity in Poland (in % of GDP), in 2000 year as well as in 2004 year, were three times lower than the Union's average. As an one of results, in 2004 only 26 % of Polish farms had the access to the Internet, while the Union's average is 43 %.Expenditures from government's budget are the sole form of financing of progress in agriculture. In years 2000-2005 they were declining constantly. This fall was accompanied by the lack of financing from private sector. In Poland in 2005 year, only 31,2% of overall individual farms above 1 hectare of arable lands, used services of counseling for agriculture, including 90% of farms that took the use of Center for Counseling for Agriculture. The highest percentage of farms that used services of counseling for agriculture was observed in 2005 year in: kujawsko-pomorskie, wielkopolskie, warmińsko-mazurskie and zachodniopomorskie voivodships. The lowest number of farms that were interested in counseling for agriculture, was in: podkarpackie, śląskie and świętokrzyskie voivodships. An equipment of households of farmers with computers was insufficient. While taking into account this criterion, farmers' households took the last place in ranking, just after pensioners' households.
