Porównano reakcję roślin formy dzikiej rumianku pospolitego (WT) i zbliżonych pokrojem okazów tetraploidalnej odmiany uprawnej Złoty Łan na 7-dniową suszę glebową. Wywołane suszą spadki parametrów wymiany gazowej liści (PN, E i gs) były większe u WT niż u odmiany Złoty Łan, i w związku z tym wewnątrzkomórkowe stężenie CO2 (ci) wzrosło silniej w przypadku WT, prawdopodobnie z powodu wzrostu fotooddychania. Wydajność wykorzystania wody w procesie fotosyntezy (WUE) i rzeczywista (faktyczna) zdolność fotosyntetyczna (PN/gs) u roślin WT wzrosła w suszy o około 1/5 kontroli, natomiast u odmiany Złoty Łan aż dwukrotnie, co świadczy o lepszym dostosowaniu procesu asymilacji CO2 u tej odmiany do niedoboru wody. U roślin odmiany Złoty Łan proporcja chlorofilu a do b spadła o połowę wartości kontroli. Relacje parametrów fluorescencji chlorofilu: FV/Fm i F’V/F’m roślin kontrolnych i poddanych suszy były zbliżone w przypadku obu genotypów. U roślin odmiany Złoty Łan zanotowano jednak spadek wartości F’0 o około 1/4 kontroli i mniejszy wzrost NPQ niż u WT. Konstytutywne i średnie wartości qP oraz ETR były natomiast większe w przypadku WT niż odmiany. Przystosowania tkanek liści do suszy i reakcje aparatu fotosyntetycznego roślin WT i odmiany uprawnej Złoty Łan na ten stres są zatem znacznie zróżnicowane. Pomimo lepszego dostosowania procesu asymilacji CO2 liści odmiany Złoty Łan do niedoboru wody spadek świeżej masy koszyczków kwiatostanowych jest większy niż analogiczny spadek u WT. Nie ma powiązania pomiędzy reakcją aparatu fotosyntetycznego liści na suszę działającą na rośliny a plonem koszyczków.

The response of wild type plants of German chamomile (WT) and that of tetraploid of similar shape cultivar Złoty Łan, to 7-day soil drought was compared. A greater decrease in fresh matter of leaves was established for the cultivar than for the WT (1/3 and 1/2 of control, respectively), although it was not related to the decrease in water content. Leaf area was restricted more in WT, although relative leaf area parameter was unchanged, but it increased in the cultivar. The fresh matter of the anthodia of cultivar was strongly reduced (ca. 15% of control), while that of WT was ca. 60% of the control weight. The decrease in leaf gas exchange (PN, E and gs) triggerred by drought was greater for WT than for the Złoty Łan cultivar, therefore the intracellular concentration of CO2 (ci) increased more in the case of WT, probably due to the increased photorespiration. Water use efficiency for photosynthesis (WUE) and intrinsic photosynthetic capacity (PN/gs) during drought increased in WT by ca. 1/5 of the control, and even twice in cv. Złoty Łan, and this reflects the better adjustment of CO2 assimilation of this cultivar to water deficit. In cv. Złoty Łan plants the chlorophyll a to b ratio dropped by half as compared to the control. The increase in the carotenoid content was a little higher in WT plants, but it did not affect carotenoid/chlorophyll (a+b) ratio. However, the constitutive (irrespective of the drought) carotenoid content and its ratio to chlorophyll was higher (by 1/3 – 1/2) in WT leaves, and this suggests the adjustment of WT plants to high irradiation that occurs in natural WT habitat. The relations of chlorophyll fluorescence: FV/Fm and F'V/F'm of the control and drought-subjected plants was similar in both genotypes. However, in cv. Złoty Łan plants a decrease in F’0 by 1/4 of the control was noticed, as well as a lower NPQ increase than that of WT. On the contrary, the constitutive and mean qP and ETR values were higher in WT than in the cultivar. Hence, the adjustment of the leaf tissue and photosynthetic apparatus of WT and cultivar Zloty Łan to drought are strongly differentiated. Despite better adjustment of leaf CO2 assimilation to water shortage the drop in the fresh matter of anthodia of Zloty Łan is greater than that of WT. There is no linkage between the response of photosynthetic apparatus of leaves, and the yield of anthodia of plants subjected to drought.
