The experiment conducted in 2006-2008 in the Department of Pomology at the West Pomeranian University of Technology of Szczecin researched the influence of chitosans of different molecular weight (3000, 5000, 12000 and 21000 g∙mol-1) on yield, fruit health and the quality of strawberry fruits of cultivar Senga Sengana. The biggest number of fruits were harvested from plants after foliar application of chitosan solution of the molecular weight 12000 g∙mol-1 (465 g). Chitosan 5000 and 12000 g∙mol-1 also influenced fruit formation: fruits were bigger (mean weight of 100 fruits 591-608) and firmer (199 G∙mm-1). Chitosans also reduced the degree of fruits infected with grey mould. There was no significant difference in the concentration of acids (0.98-1.12 g citric acid 100 g-1), vitamin C (21.6-28.5 mg∙100 g-1) and the nitrates (19-31 mg∙100 g-1). All the used chitosans affected the increase of the number of phenolics. The highest number of phenolic compounds was found in fruits after foliar application of chitosan 12000 g∙mol-1 (51 mg∙100 g-1).
