The research and selection work were carried out on the material of 2xZN type of sugar beet at a different self-compatibility degree. The number of 36 genotypes of S1 generation and 34 genotypes of S2 generation and the standard were examined. The highest variability of infection level caused by Cercospora beticola in in vitro tests occurred in the first year of selection. The average number spots on 10 leaf discs for analyzed 36 progenies of S1 generation was equal to from 18.46 to 116.97 and respectively for 34 progenies of S2 generation from 6.79 to 68.40. In the second year of selection the decrease of variability in generations both between and within the examined progenies were observed. The average number of spots on 10 leaf discs for analyzed 19 progenies of S1 generation was between 10.98 and 60.24 and respectively for S2 generation between 5.72 and 43.48. A wide range of variability in the examined materials allowed selection of five genotypes of S1 generation and eight genotypes of S2 generation at a high level of resistance to C. beticola.
