Weed control efficiency of several mulches material was evaluated in four broadleaved shrubs grown in 2 dm/1 container in nursery production. All of the mulches material provided excellent weed control for over two months, later on their efficiency decreased but was still very good, according to control plants were no mulching was provided. Growth of ornamental shrubs was much better when mulching was provided. Hydrangea paniculata ‘Grandiflora’ was even 10 cm higher than control plants when coco disc and textile disc were used. Growth reduction of Potentilla fruticosa ‘Goldstar’, Spiraea japonica ‘Goldflame’ and Waigela florida ‘Bristol Ruby’ was observed when straw rye and pine sawdust were used for mulching. The type of mulches material has no effect on mean shoots number of tested shrubs.
