The results on yield and plant infection (root system and lower internodes) of some winter wheat cultivars cultivated after different preceding crops e.g. potato, oat and rye. The study was based on long term field experiment located on the soil of very good rye soil suitability complex in Grabów Experimental Station Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation – State Research Institute in 2006–2009. Different response of studied cultivars to improper forecrop (rye) was stated. It could be directly related to the occurrence of stem base diseases and especially with root system infection by pathogenic fungi.
