Powierzchnia roślin, szczególnie skład chemiczny wyznacza postać pierwszej linii odporności w stosunku do roślinożerców. W celu zbadania wpływu wosków epikutykularnych na zachowanie mszycy M. dirhodum zastosowano metodę EPG. Mszyce żerujące na żelach zawierających woski powierzchniowe woskowego genotypu pszenżyta RAH 116, miały wydłużony czas trwania modelu C, odpowiadającego penetracji w epidermie i mezofilu.

The surface of plants, especially its chemical constitutes form the first line of resistance to herbivores. The electrical penetra raph (EPG) method was used to quantify the effect of epicuticular waxes on feeding behaviour of M. dirhodum on an artificial diets. Aphids feeding on the gels with surface waxes of the waxy genotype RAH 116 had a prolonged activity (pattern C) that was corresponded to prolonged penetration of the epidermis and mesophyll for aphids feeding on plants. At higher concentrations (100 µg·g-1) surface waxes completely stopped salivation (pattern E1). Patterns E2 and G did not occur with any aphid on diets containing surface waxes of the waxy genotype RAH 116. Summing up the chemical compounds which occur within epicuticular waxes of the waxy genotype play an important role during feeding behavior of the rose-grass aphid.
