This study aims to explore the opportunities and challenges related to the economic platforms for the hotel industry, with an emphasis on the emergence of an integrated platform for the ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) hotel industry. Through a narrative review of the three main academic databases and applying the inclusion criteria, the authors thoroughly analysed 17 selected papers, thematically to systematically, and identified three common themes. The findings indicate that the studies on the economic platforms in the hotel industry are mostly concentrated on the components related to hotel performance, competition, and customer satisfaction. The authors incorporated the findings to the current status of the economic platforms in the ASEAN countries and determined some insightful recommendations addressing the gaps occurring in regulations, productivity and technology for both hoteliers and policy makers. The limitations and insights for a future research are also provided.
