In 1961 an attempt was undertaken to eradicate some parasitic diseases, mainly ascaridosis, in 6 villages of Miechów district; the examinations were performed in 2091 persons, i.e. 79.7% of the population, Ascaris lumbricoides being found in 156 cases (7.5%). In men the infestation rate was almost twice (9.4%) than that of women (5.8%) children aged from 4 to 14 years being most frequently affected. In some of the villages large-scale hygienic measures (aqueducts, installation of lavatories and bathrooms) were applied. Additionally, the infested persons were treated with piperazine compounds. The follow-up examinations made 1-3 months after the treatment showed 143 out of 144 persons to be free of worms. Negative results were also obtained 6-12 months later in 69 cases with the presence of Ascarii lumbricoides before the institution of the antiparasitic measures.
