Z okazji stwierdzenia po raz pierwszy w Polsce Trombicula (Neotrombicula) autumnalis (Shaw 1790) na kretach z okolicy Krakowa autor omawia znaczenie lekarskie larw z rodziny Trombiculidae Ewing 1944 i związane z tym zagadnienia z biologii i ekologii tych roztoczy. W Polsce stwierdzono dotychczas 4 gatunki: T. (N.) autumnalis Shaw 1790, T. (N.) zachvatkini Szluger 1948 (Kozłowski 1958), T. (Leptotrombidium) russica Oudemans 1902 (Willmann 1952) i Cheladonta costulata (Willmann 1952). Ze względu na brak w literaturze polskiej, poza krótką wzmianką, prac o tej grupie roztoczy, autor podaje charakterystykę systematyczną. tych 4 gatunków, jako zapoczątkowanie badań nad tymi ektopasożytami w Polsce.

The occurence of Trombicula (N eotrombicula) autumnalis (Shaw 1790) in Poland is reported for the first time. The specimens of this species were found on moles in the southern part of the country (near Kraków). The sanitary role and related problems of biology and ecology of the larvae belonging to the family Trombiculidae Ewing 1944 are discussed. Four species of the Trombiculidae family were reported from Poland. These are: T. (N.) autumnalis (Shaw 1790), T. (N.) zachvatkini Schluger 1948 (Kozłowski 1958), - T. (Leptotrombidium) russica Oudemans 1902 (Willmann 1952), and Cheladonta costulata (Willmann 1952). The paper brings a taxonomical characterisation of these four species which would be helpful in future work on this family of mites.
