The paper addresses the issue of the education level of rural inhabitants of Poland's Kujawsko-Pomorskie (Kujawy-Pomerania) voivodship. This is achieved against the background of the educational level of the rural population nationwide, and the relation-ship between education and the rate of unemployment is also presented. Finally, a last section speaks of the possibilities of rural levels of education in this part of the country being increased. In rural parts of Kujawy-Pomerania, the percentage of the population with no more than an elementary level of educational (i.e. including those without any education at all) is as high as 55,4, while the proportion with higher education is as low as 1,9%. When it comes to the three former voivodships from which that of Kujawy-Pomerania was established in 1999, it is that of Bydgoszcz that shows the highest educational level within the farming population. The worst situation is that in the territory of what was previously the province of Włocławek. The special attention of the study was paid to the inadequacy of the educational in-frastructure (the school network, equipping of rooms, provisioning of information tech-nology and Internet access), as well as to problems with the teaching of foreign languages. The relationship between educational levels and rates of unemployment confirm the thesis that a higher educational level is indeed associated with more limited joblessness. Analyses also revealed that the areas with higher proportions of the population educated to the secondary and higher levels are concentrated in the suburban districts of cities (especially Bydgoszcz and Toruń), where the level of unemployment is lowest. Finally, the last section points to the growth in the number of post-secondary schools in smaller towns of the region, and in rural areas. They play a very important role; because of their wider ranges of proposed teaching directions (especially those in general demand on the labour market) stimulate the socio-economic development of rural areas.
