The aim of this study was to determine the occurrence of common smut in south-eastern Poland on hybrid maize variety DKC 3420, depending on the seed treatments and spray treatments with selected fungicides. The occurrence of common smut in the years of research was at a medium level. A higher intensity of the disease occurrence was observed in 2010 than in 2009. All preparations used in the experiment significantly reduced the occurrence of common smut. Seed treatment products provided a better control of the disease as compared to spraying treatments with fungicides. The highest efficiency showed the following seed treatment products: Maxim XL 035 FS and Vitavax 200 FS.
