The field studies confirmed that the effect of rye catch crop on the yield of buckwheat depended on the amount of precipitation during the vegetation period. Weed infestation of buckwheat cultivated after winter rye was clearly lower than in the control object and depended on the development at phase of rye during the incorporation into the soil. A stronger herbicidal effect of rye was achieved when the rye catch crop was ploughed in using a rotary cultivator.
