A majority of the representatives from the family Cydnidae analysed in this paper constitute xerophilous species observed sporadically in the northwestern part of Poland—thez occur mainly at grassland communities as well as dry barren lands. Some of them, such as Adomerus biguttatus (L.) and Cydnus aterrimus (FORST.), had not been recorded from this part of the country for a few decades. The discussed species from the family Scutelleridae are widely distributed throughout Poland. The ostensible rarity of Eurygaster testudinaria (G EOFFR .) in Northwestern Poland results probably from mistaking it with Eurygaster maura (L.) during fieldwork. In more humid habitats, especially at low meadows, mud-sedge communities, and river valleys , it is not a rare species, often co-existing with its more common relative.
