Отличается 3 главные функции деревянистых растений: производственную, культурную и защитную. Первые две — получение древесины а тоже основьтвание парков, огородов — известны и давно использования. Теперь огромное значение придают защитной функции деревьев, особенно в районах, в которых выступает загрязнение атмосферного воздуха. Автор обсуждает эту проблему в разных аспектах, особенно в положении вымирания лесов и вытекающих с этого факта обязанностях науки и практики.

Three main functions of aborescent plants can be distinguished: the productive, cultural and protective one. The first two functions — gaining of timber, and formation of parks, gardens and groves — are known and utilized for a long time. Nowadays the protective function of trees is considered important, specially in the regions in which the pollution of atmospheric air occurs. The author discusses this problem from different points of view, particularly in the situation of a catastrophic extinction of forests and the duties of science and practice resulting from this fact.
