A case of 30 year-old woman is described in whom colitis ulcerosa was associated with severe Entamoeba coli invasion. A marked eosinophilia in the peripheral blood and a local one in the muco-hemato-purpulent content of feces is a striking feature. This fact may suggest the presence of an immune response against Entamoeba. After inffective treatment with oxyterracin and topical administration of hydrocortisone in rectal infusions, a partial regression of intestinal symptoms and disappearance of Entamoeba from feces were noted following the use of Encortone. It may be assumed that a reduced reaction of an allergic type resulted in the interruption of the vicious circle of pathologic phenomena and made it possible to bring under control both the ulcerative process in the intestine and the parasitic invasion.
