Badanym juwenoidem był Cyklopren, zsyntetyzowany w Instytucie Chemii Organicznej PAN w Warszawie, a owadami testowymi (pochodzące z własnej hodowli laboratoryjnej) komary, larwy III-IV i poczwarki (Culex pipiens molestus i Aedes aegypti) oraz pchły i larwy III (Xenopsylla cheopis). Cyklopren w stosunku do komara C.p. molestus był wysoce aktywny . W temp. 20°C i w dawkach 0,25-1 µg/1 ml wody powodował 88- 99,3% redukcje postaci przedimaginalnych. W temp. 28°C wykazywał wysoką aktywność w odniesieniu do obu gatunków komarów. W badaniaoh prowadzonych na wolnym powietrzu w małych, sztucznych zbiornikach wodnych (szkło, blacha, polietylen) Cyklopren w dawce 1 µg/1 ml wody powodował redukcję C.p. molestus w zakresie 86,1-98,0%.

The action of the juvenoid "Cyklopren", synthesized in the Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Scienoes in Warsaw, on mosquitoes and fleas was examined. The inseots used came from a laboratory culture at the Institute of Maritime and Tropical Medicine in Gdynia. Among mosquitoes, Culex pipiens molestus and Aedes aegypti (3rd and 4th instar larvae) and pupae), and fleas Xenopsylla oheopie (3rd instar larvae) were examined. Cyklopren was highly active on C.p. molestus at 20°C and in doses of 0.25-1 µg/ml water, reduced 88-99.3% of preimaginal forms. At 28°C this juvenoid was highly aotive on both mosquito species. Under these conditions and with dose of 1 µg/ml water Cyklopren caused mortality in 62.2-100% of preimaginal forms, even when a very short exposure time for larvae (1/2, 1 and 2 hours) was used. In the case of pupae this juvenoid action in dose of 1 µg/ml water and at permanent exposure was very low, and lethal only for 16% of individuals. In larvae, pupae and emerged adults no morphogenetic changes, oaused by exposure to juvenoid, were found. Only a small percentage (4,2%) of imaginee failed to emerge from the pupal covers due to the aotion of low Cyklopren doses. In experiments carried out under free-air conditions and in small artificial water tanks made oft glass, enamel-covered metal (pots), metal covered with protective varnish (empty tins) and of polyethylene, Cyklopren in dose of 1 µg/ml water caused a reduction of C.p. molestus of the range of 86.1-98.0% of individuals. In experiments with fleas doses of 0.1-50 µg/1 g culture medium evidently disturbed the development of Xenopsylla cheopis. The larvae failed to form cocoons before pupation, formed the intermediate developmental stages with larval and pupal features, and the emergence of imagines was inhibited. The final effect was a reduction of 50.3-100% of the flea population examined. Cyklopren showed a longlasting biological activity in the medium both in relation to mosquitoes and fleas.
