W artykule przybliżono stosunkowo nowe zagadnienie inteligentnych wiosek (smart villages), które mają istotne znaczenie dla rozwoju obszarów wiejskich, zarówno ze względu na nowe możliwości tworzenia miejsc pracy, jak i z punktu widzenia jakości życia na wsi. Społeczność zamieszkująca obszary tzw. inteligentnych wsi wykorzystuje innowacyjne rozwiązania w celu poprawy warunków pracy i życia, opierając się na lokalnych atutach, możliwościach i mocnych stronach obszarów wiejskich. Koncepcja inteligentnych wsi nie zawiera jednego uniwersalnego rozwiązania. Opiera się ona na potrzebach i potencjale danego terytorium oraz na strategii i jest wspierana przez nowe lub istniejące strategie terytorialne. W smart villages kluczowe są technologie, inwestycje w infrastrukturę, rozwój przedsiębior-czości, kapitał ludzki, zdolności i budowanie społeczności. Bardzo ważne jest również zaangażowanie społeczności lokalnych.

The article presents a relatively new issue of smart villages, which is significant for the development of rural areas, both in terms of new job creation opportunities and the quality of life in the countryside. The community living in the so-called smart villages, uses innovative solutions to improve working and living conditions, based on local advantages, opportunities and strengths of rural areas. The concept of smart villages does not contain one universal solution. It is based on the needs and potential of the area and on its strategy and is supported by new or existing territorial strategies. Technologies, infrastructure investments, entrepreneurship development, human capital, capabilities and community building play a key role in smart villages. The involvement of local communities is also very important.
