In order to help fruit and vegetable producers in Lithuania to adjust to common market organization, legal regulations governing the recognition and financial support for producer organizations were issued by the Minister of Agriculture during the pre-accession period. However, such organizations have not been formed. Therefore, the authors of the presented article have developed two models of such organizations. The first assumes joining currently existing regional co-operatives to form larger units, capable of achieving the producer organization status and in further perspective incorporating these producer organizations into a national association. The second model proposes using the already existing links between producers and wholesalers to create producer organizations involving wholesale businesses.
