The experiments were done on 30 sheep to determine the effect of positioning of animals on the operation table on a gas exchange during Vetbutal narcosis. The greatest disturbances in respiration and arterial blood oxygenation appeared in animals in a dorsal position and the lowest ones in animals in a sternal position. In a dextro-lateral position intermediate disturbances were noted. In the anaesthetised animals in which position of head to thorax was properly chosen salive was not aspirated to lungs.
