Upper Silesia region abounds with postindustrial area, the reuse of which is highly limited due to environmental contamination. Among them is the "Trzebinia" Metal. Company postindustrial area. The contamination of the plant area with heavy metals have lasted since 19th century up till now. The study results clearly indicate that chemical degradation is connected with extremely high Cu concentration. Lesser contamination has been revealed for Cr and Ni. In subsoil the contents of most of the analysed elements are lower than in the topsoil (and below threshold value) which indicates anthropogenic influence. Diversified metallurgy processing, diversity of raw materials and open-cycle technologies were the source of contamination. Today negative influence on soil is related mainly to improper waste disposal.
