The paper presents the occurrence of the Abax schueppeli rendschmidtii (Coleoptera, Carabidae) in the Podkarpackie forests. Until recently, A. schueppeli rendschmidtii had been caught sporadically and recorded in a few reports that are now largely of historical interest The distribution of this species in Southeastern Poland is poorly known. The study was conducted in 18 forest inspectorates in 2016–2017 using ground traps placed in a lattice grid of 2-km side length. During the two-year study, 2074 beetles were caught in this area. It was shown that this species is not uncommon in these areas, preferring beech and fir stands rich in dead wood. The results demonstrate that this beetle also occurs in artificial afforestation on post-agricultural lands, which are dominated by pines and multi-species forests originating from natural succession. The results obtained from the conducted research indicate its wide spread in the Krosno Forest Inspectorates. Our comprehensive research shows that the population of the species in these areas is large and hence does not belong to rare species. The studied localities are characterized by varied terrain with numerous ravines and steep slopes limiting the usable accessibility of the forest. In such places, out of economic reasons, naturally formed deadwood has not been removed for years, which creates refuges and optimal places for the development of numerous insects. Currently, state forests have been managing stands by taking into account the proecological policy, in which the maintenance of high species biodiversity in forest ecosystems plays a key role. Therefore, they have been delivering on that, among others, by leaving dead trees and logging waste, which contributes to maintaining the population of many saproxylophagous species, not only in hard-to-reach areas. It is to be hoped that the new ways of forest management will allow for maintaining and even increasing the population of rare insects.
