The examinations were performed on 245 samples of pork, 114 samples of beef and 26 samples of poultry meat. There was used USDA-FSIS method for the detection of Listeria monocytogenes in the samples weighing 25 g each. The results showed that 10.7% of pork samples and 7.0% of beef samples contained the strains of L. monocytogenes. The percentage of poultry meat samples contaminated by L. monocytogenes was very high; it ranged from 60 to 100 depending on the kind of the tissue examined. Altogether 51 virulent strains of L. monocytogenes were isolated from the materials under study. In the slide agglutination test it was shown that among the isolated strains 48 of 51 (94%) belonged to the serotype 1—3, while only 3 of 51 (6%) to the serotype 4. Besides, 59 apathogenic strains were isolated and they were classified as L. monocytogenes serotype 4.
