Food services play an important role among tourist-oriented facilities. In areas visited by tourists, food establishments are usually located in places characterised by heavy tourist traffic. In the case of larger cities, the bulk of food facilities - similarly to other services - can be found in downtown areas. Due to the fact that the distribution of food services is governed by the same rules as the distribution of other services (especially those targeting single customers), several patterns can be distinguished in their location in urban areas. The patterns are the following: concentric, zonal, radial and concentricradial (the latter occurs in two forms, simple and complex). The concentric-radial pattern can be found primarily in larger urban centres. Usually, the larger the centre (urban agglomeration), the higher the level of complexity. Empirical studies carried out in Warsaw have demonstrated that in the case of restaurants and small eateries (bary) offering ethnic dishes, the concentric-radial patern can be revealed.
