Występowanie dziko żyjących ssaków i ptaków w pobliżu zabudowań analizowano w latach 2011-2014 za pomocą 49 fotopułapek rozmieszczonych wewnątrz i na zewnątrz budynków we wsiach Białowieża, Juszkowy Gród i Nowa Wola. Zebrano 2802 niezależne obserwacje ssaków należących do 12 gatunków i 93 obserwacje ptaków należących do 15 gatunków. Do najliczniej rejestrowanych ssaków należały: kot domowy Felis catus, kuna domowa Martes foina, lis rudy Vulpes vulpes, jeż wschodni Erinaceus roumanicus i pies domowy Canis familiaris, a wśród ptaków - rudzik Erithacus rubecula i kos Turdus merula. Ssaki i ptaki częściej stwierdzano na zewnątrz budynków. Największe zagęszczenia kuny domowej odnotowano w okresie jesienno-zimowym, a lisa i jeża - wiosną. Fotopułapki automatycznie rejestrujące obecność zwierząt umożliwiają monitoring liczebności, szczególnie ssaków prowadzących skryty tryb życia.

The abundance of wild mammals and birds in the vicinity of human settlements in villages was investigated based on data from camera traps. In 2011-2014, films were recorded inside as well as outside of buildings in the village of Białowieża, Juszkowy Gród and Nowa Wola (NE Poland). A total of 2802 records representing 12 species of mammals and 92 observations representing 15 species of birds were noted. The domestic cat Felis catus, stone marten Martes foina, red fox Vulpes vulpes, northern white-breasted hedgehog Erinaceus roumanicus and domestic dog Canis familiaris were the most frequently occurring mammals, whereas robin Erithacus rubecula and blackbird Turdus merula were most often recorded birds. Mammals and birds were recorded more often outside buildings than inside. Stone marten reached higher density in villages during the autumn-winter season, whereas red fox and hedgehog during spring. The study proves that camera traps record even the presence of cryptic animals and enable effective monitoring of animals abundance and species composition.
