Previously contaminated alluvia that serve as meadows and pastures at present were studied. In samples of 14 soil profiles collected along the river course in various distances off the river-bed the following factors were measured’a total number of bacteria and fungi; dehydrogenase, urease and phosphatase activity; pH value; and total nitrogen, humus and water contens. The study showed strong positive corelation between low soil pH values and a number of soil fungi, as well as negative influence of strong acid reaction on total number of bacteria and soil enzymes activity. Very strong influence of humus contens and samples collection season on measured values of biological soil activity was observed.
