Blood serum of piglets allowed to suckle for the first time 2, 4, 8 and 12 hours after birth, sampled on the 1st, 3rd, 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th days of their life, was analysed in respect of the levels of total protein, albumins, globulins, immunoglobulins and lysozyme. It was shown that the unfavourable results, due to the delayed release of piglets for suckling, start at times various for individual investigated biochemical parameters and elements responsible for lactogenic humoral immunity. Even as low as 2-hour delay in the colostrum intake is manifested in decreased globulin level, 4-hour delay - in decreased immunoglobulin level, and in case of piglets allowed to suckle sows 8-12 hours after birth lower levels of total protein and lysozyme were also found.
