Researches were carried out in the years 1991-1994 in the piedmont region (310 m above sea level) on the permanent pasture. It had been studied how the floristic composition of the sward, its yielding and the degree of utilization by milk cow were influenced by the frequency of pasture exploitation (4 and 5 pasturage) and nitrogen fertilization (60, 120, 180 kg N per ha). More frequent exploitation favoured mainly the growth of perennial reygrass and white clover, while the growth of orchard grass was limited. The increase of nitrogen rates per ha resulted in the higher pasture yield. On the other hand, it caused a systematic decrease of the pasture exploitation, especially of it with overgrown sward (> 20 cm).
