Iron plays an important role in the pedogenesis. Distribution of its forms in soil can be qualitative and quantitative indexes of soil the transformation status. Different iron forms in soils of the Pojezierze Dobrzyńskie region were determined. The total iron content (Fet) ranged from 1225 g/kg to 2905 g/kg and indicated anenrichment in the Bt horizon, and an impoverishment in the luvic horizon. Distribution of Fet in the soils was similar to that of the clay fraction. Similarly, changing free and amorphous iron contents was connected with genetic horizon variability. Differences between active and total iron content in the surface horizons and subsurface horizons were observed.
