Aluminium phytotoxicity on acid soils is the major factor limiting growth and yield of plants as well as lowering crop quality. Calciumions play an important role in aluminium phytotoxicity. However, many aspects of calcium effect on aluminium toxicity are not well known, particularly on molecular level. Therefore, the studies on interaction between aluminium and calcium ions in water solution and in a plant should be continued. This paper discusses the relations between calcium ions and aluminium Phytotoxicity considering in: aluminium uptake by roots, cellular membrane permeability, callose synthesis, calmodulin activity, cell growth, phytohonnone activity and Rhyziobium-legume symbiosis.
