Paper presented the dissimilarities in social and economic structures formed in villages of different urbanization level. The analysis was based on the data on 73 villages surveyed by the Institute of Agricultural and Food Production Economy (IERiGŻ) in 1996. Examined communities were divided into three groups according to the percentage of families, with some persons employed outside of the farm. The category of low urbanization level included 26% surreyed willages, 41% settlement units belonged to the category of middle urbanization level, whereas 33% villages were classifeed into strongest urbanized group. The dissimilarities in social and economic features observed in selcted village types proved the importance of additional income sources for transformation processes in agriculture and rural areas. The results of study became a premise to determination of mechanisms which decide on the increasing of spatial disproportions in social-economic development of rural areas.
