The article is an attempt to identify the causes of the physical differentiation of the structure of urban biocenoses. Owing to the knowledge on the influence of various types of management and on a direct influence exerted by the urban structures (system of building up the areas, configuration of the areas differing in the way of their management etc.) and on specific deformations in the functionning of the natural processes, it is possible to determine also the influence exerted by these structures on the life of organisms and their dissemination. Application of concepts connected with the theory of the Mac Arthur Islands allows to identify the role played by various urban structures in restraining a spontaneous appearance of various organisms im particular areas of the town. A basis for creation of urban biocenoses are, the most frequently, the so called urban green areas arising from a rather small number of plant species. The source of enriching these areas by the organisms which strengthen the biocenoses of the town centre, as well as by those which disturb their functionning are the areas of preserved natural conditions showing a great abundance of plant species. Such natural or semi-natural complexes may be seen, usually, outside of towns or as natural urban enclaves. The systems of the urban structures exising between the areas enriched and the source of their enrichment may be described as specific types of various Kinds. An absupt change in conditions existing in the areas situated in the same neighbourhood or in the way of their use may also form a barrier to particular organisms. Specific features of barriers are connected with the type of management, with the intensity of the use of these areas or with a characteristic behaviour of man. Limitations in displacement of various organisms or in possibilities of their survival within a given area may result also from periodical cultivation of certain organisms with simultaneous elimination of other ones which have already arrived and populated the region. Identification of the intensity of barriers of particular types of urban development and of the species of organisms which are either adopted or eliminated by them will allow to shape the town structure so as to enable the enrichment of the town centre by the organisms which stabilize the urban biocenoses and, in a certain measure, to isolate them from unfavourable influences.
