During 1950-1994 the number of farms over 1 hectare decreased in FRG (the territory before unification) by 67%, in the Netherlands by 56%, in Belgium by 73%, in Denmark by 66%, in France by 64% and in Italy by 37%. The average size of farm increased from 26% (Italy) to 191% (Belgium). The reduction in numbers of farms and acreage of agricultural land bas started in size groups including the smallest farms and then, step by step, has comprised the following size groups, where at the beginning an increase was observed.
