Direct and indirect characteristics on red clover grown as an undersown plant were highly variable and deviated from the normal distribution. Individual mass of red clover grown with supporting plants was lower than that of the plants grown in monoculture (control). Overground DM of red clover plants was determined (R2 = 0.86) by a number of established shoots and the length of a main shoot. Indirect characteristics, when compared with direct ones, did not provide more information on effects of supporting plants on red clover.
