Against the background of development in agricultural sciences all over the word and in Poland, the scientific and technical progress in agricultural engineering within last 50 years was evaluated. Successive development stages of agricultural engineering were characterised beginning from the theory of farm machine construction up to nowadays and future bioengineering.
