Odkąd ludzie z Prawieku uciekli do lasu i żyli tam w wykopanych ziemiankach, Zły człowiek nie mógł sobie znaleźć w lesie miejsca. Byli hałaśliwi i fałszywi. Byli bezczelni i nieostrożni.

Since people of ancient times had run away to the forest and lived there in dugouts, Bad Man could find his place in the forest. People were everywhere, in every groove, on every meadow. (…). He watched them all days, but the longer he looked at them, the more he was afraid of them and hated them. They were noisy and insincere. They moved their mouths all the time and gave out sounds that were without any sense. It was not crying or shouting or even a murmur of joy. Their speech meant nothing. Everywhere they left traces and smells. They were impudent and not careful.
