The mycotrophy was studied on self-sown seedlings a year after a total lire and on seedlings bedded out on the recultivated areas. The mean percentage of autotrophic roots of two-year-old seedlings was low, whereas of one-year-old was relatively high. The percentage of living mycorrhizas reached over 85% on two-year-old seedlings and 58% on one-year-old ones. The mycorrhizal spectrum was narrow and limited to very well formed mycorrhizas of the Bb kind. The mycotrophy of the birch was generally good and showed a distinct development tendency proved by an abundant fructification of Laccaria laccata (Scop.: Fr.) Berk, et Br.
